

James “Shannon” Walton passed away on 17 July 2020. Shannon was born in 1962 in Maine, where he resided for 18 years. He then moved to Northern Virginia, and later retired to Surf City, N.C. Shannon, a retired audio recording artist, business owner, and drummer, worked with many famous musicians during his career. He also taught audio engineering and mentored many. Shannon will be remembered for his kind, caring, and loving manner, his loyalty, and his quick wit and humor. Shannon was a man of many talents and interests. His hobbies included all things musical, flying stunt kites, building ship, airplane, train, and car models, drawing, and driving remote vehicles. He was an avid National Hot Rod Association, football, and hockey fan. He owned a Corvette “show” car which he competed and won in multiple Eastern Carolina Corvette club events. Shannon cherished spending time with his family and friends. A loving husband, father, grandfather, step-father, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, he is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Walton; daughters Amy Butler and Jessica Longoria; step-son, Joseph D. Woodward, Jr.; sons-in-law Clayton Butler and Allen Longoria; seven grandchildren, Emma Heinemeyer, Marshall Butler, Penelope Butler, Logan Demerest, Erik Dana, Ashley Jellson, and Jordan Jellson; two brothers, Scott P. Walton, and Shawn Walton; other family members Beverly Westerman, Barbara Hartman, Judy Westerman, Richard and Mona Westerman, three great nieces and nephew, multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
