In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Cannon Gore and daughter, Diane Gore Pour.
After serving in the US Army for three years, he served 27 years with the Wilmington Police Department, retiring as a sergeant.
He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Roan’s Island Hunting Club for years as well as the Black River Hunting Club. He loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his son J. D. Gore III and wife Jennifer Sawyer Gore of Norfolk VA; grandchildren: James Wesley Gore and Kayla of Longs, SC and Dexter Caralivanos of Shawboro, NC; great-granddaughter, Salem Gore of Longs, SC; and his sister Helen Gore of Wilmington, NC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, December 14, 2025. 1155 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC. The Funeral Service will start at 2:00pm with Reverend Dodd Mays officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
