

He was born on January 13, 1927 in Pitt County, NC. He is the son of the late Abe and Melissa Carraway.
John served his country in the United States Air Force. While living in Burgaw, NC he worked at Pender County Electric and was a member of the Jaycees. He moved his family to Wilmington in 1965. After receiving his CPA, he owned his CPA Firm in Wilmington. He was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 40 years where he served as an elder, choir member, deacon and treasurer. He was a devoted member of The Gideon International, where he served as a former president, and treasurer of the Gideon camp in Wilmington. His wife, Jean is still an active member.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter; Jonni Leigh Carraway; 4 brothers, Charlie, Harvey, Bennett, Sidney and his sister, Ruth Benton.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Carraway; two daughters, Donna Carraway and Sharon Clapp and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Mark Clapp and Melissa Clapp; his sister, Martha Brooks Sandy; 2 sister-in-laws, Bernadine Carraway and Katherine Carraway; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Visitation will be held on Monday February 6, 2012 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 6, 2012 at 12:00pm at the Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. June Highfill officiating.
A Graveside service will follow with Military Honors at Oleander Memorial Garden, 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington, NC 28409.
