Barbara,John,Cheri,  So sorry to hear about John. He was so nice to talk with. He always found time to help out our neighbors in any way he could. He will be greatly missed.

I worked  under John's leadership from August 1984 until John retired from federal service.  I learned much from him and his way of striving to deal fairly and honestly with everyone.  I can honestly say that John was one of the finest people I ever met .  I still remember his good example.  I am sure he has inherited a great reward in Heaven.

Barbara and Family,    We just want to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family in the loss of John. We really enjoyed seeing the two of you at the reunion. May it give you some comfort in knowing that others care and are praying for your family during this trying time.

Dear John's family;  I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Marshall's death.  I had the priviledge of working under his direction for FGIS for many years. He was a true professional, and commanded the highest respect from all who he asscociated with.  I was fortunate to travel with him a few times on International assignments to Mexico.  He was so respected and liked that he was given the title Senator Marshall by the audiences.  I felt like I was traveling with an Ambassador for USDA and FGIS.  He was also so much fun and positive to be around. He touched many lives within the Grain Inspection family. I know you will miss him dearly, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Dear Barbara and all of the extended Marshall Family,    On behalf of all of the employees of USDA's Federal Grain Inspection Service FGIS, I would like to extend sincere condolences on the death of the legendary John W. Marshall last week.    John's career was one of honor and integrity.  He welcomed challenges with dedication of purpose.  He had a strong ethic for customer service within and outside FGIS.  He was well respected throughout the Agency, in other Federal and State agencies, official grain inspection agencies, and grain industry companies and organizations, all of whom are integral to the U.S. grain marketing system.

Among other employees, John was the leader of many of us FGIS employees who were hired in the late 1970's after the grain scandals.  Those of us who worked under him knew of his dedication, integrity, feistiness, and fatherly warmth.  As one of my co-workers put it upon learning of his death, "I was fortunate to travel with him on two occasions to Mexico, and he impressed the audiences so much during the seminars that he received the title Senator Marshall.'  I felt like I was traveling with a true Ambassador for FGIS."     Like so many others, I considered John to be a professional and personal mentor that shaped my career.  Several of us have progressed into leadership positions in FGIS after him, and hopefully have been able to pass along the values we learned from him to younger employees after us.  In that regard, his legacy continues.

Barbara, Brad & Cheri,  I am so sorry and shocked to hear about John.  I really thought he would outlive you and me.  I understand the grief you are experiencing at this time.  You must hold tight to God's unchanging hand and he will carry you through.  Love you,
