She was born in the Rowan community of Bladen County on April 13, 1933, daughter of Sam Page and Lotte English Brown. She was preceded in death by most of her beloved family including husband, Bennie Roger Sellers. This cherished family includes her sister, Annie Laura Stewart and husband Marshall; Jane Brown Walker and husband Ed; brother, Sam Page Brown, Jr.; and niece, Pamela Jane Walker Smith. Other departed loved ones include, late life partner Verne “Tommy” Hufham and son-in-law, Paul Cheshire.
Julia lived a full, meaningful life. In the late 60’s , she worked as the secretary of Leland High School. Later she owned the local Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors Ice Cream Shop. She ultimately retired from Blue Bell (Wrangler) Corporation after managing their factory outlet store in Wilmington. As a youth, Julia sang tenor with her sisters in a gospel trio, traveling around North and South Carolina. She graduated from New Hanover High School and was a lifetime member of Springview Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Julia greatly enjoyed life. She and Bennie loved shrimping and frying those shrimp to serve to the family at their home; that is, unless it was oyster season. Children delighted in her Easter egg hunts and coconut bunny cakes. Growing up, much mischief was conducted in concert with younger brother Sam. Julia was also an artist, painting mostly realistic landscapes. She enjoyed fashion and was always impeccably dressed. Later in life, she relished travel with love ones, collecting and saving many a brochure along the way. Passing a dog in a car always brought an audible giggle as she was fond of a dog, she always shared her food with the dogs. Julia valued time spent doing for her family.
Julia is remembered as being kind and gracious, with a pleasant nature and a warm smile. She was a gentle soul with a soft heart. She quietly influenced those around her with strength and humility. She maintained a career outside the home, working throughout her life to set an example. Julia always helped others without fanfare. She genuinely cared for others
Surviving are her daughter, Debra Sellers Davis; brother, Ralph A. Brown and wife Jeannie; sister-in-law, Patricia Brown, and daughter, Mary Ruth Hufham. A multitude of adoring grandchildren, nieces, and nephews reflect on the many precious memories with her. Julia is also survived by her faithful dog, Tweetsie. Many thanks to everyone who helped in this process.
