Kathleen Dell Horowitz was born on January 3, 1950, in Michigan. Kathleen, also affectionately known as Kathy, loved nature. Kathy spoke often of her playing in the woods and how grounded and loved she felt when in nature. Kathy’s desire to heal wounds and learn new ways of being in this world helped her create the life she desired. Her healing journey was deep and she felt good about all she had accomplished. Kathy was the consummate educator. Kathy also saw opportunities to learn and teach both in a traditional classroom and in the classroom of life. Kathy embodied what Jesus taught us about unconditional love. She had a gift of meeting people where they were and accepted them unconditionally.
Kathy was instrumental in creating multiple programs for adults in Florida. Her final role was as Interim Associate Dean at Palm Beach State College. Kathy was a true visionary when it came to giving back to her community. Kathy was a role model and inspiration for middle school students at Shallotte Middle School when she worked for Communities in Schools. Kathy was fluent in Spanish thus allowing her to bridge the communication gap with her students.
In 1993, Kathy’s life changed when she met Lester, their love story began the moment they held hands. Kathy and Lester loved a good adventure and to travel! Some of their favorite places were Spain, Germany and many places in the United States. Kathy loved her daughter, Kira. Kathy also deeply loved being a grandmother to Isla. She always said Isla was a gift from God. Kathy and Lester also have family in Germany they dearly love. Kathy’s love for her family and friends was the very essence of who she was as a person. 32 plus years of love, laughter, tears and adventures Kathy and Lester’s love lives on.
Kathy taught us how to be playful! One of Kathy’s last activities was to create a fairy garden in her backyard. She loved to watch the birds and squirrels play in her fairy garden. Kathy’s spirit of creativity and giving back to humanity will live on in all of us.
