Lena Carrie "Karen" Edwards

Lena Carrie “Karen” Edwards, age 73, passed peacefully to be with her Savior, early in the morning, May 14th 2023 at her home in Wilmington, NC with family by her side, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Karen will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Ronald Edwards; son, Michael Edwards and companion Christy McNeil; grandson, Justin Edwards; and granddaughter, Olivia Talton and husband David Talton.

The family wants to thank Heather Edwards, who shared a 34 year long bond with Karen, for her love and care during Karen’s battle with cancer. They also thank longtime friends, Jayson and Donna VanVliet, and Tyler Croom, for their help in the most difficult days.

Karen is survived by four siblings, William “Billy” Porter and wife Betty Ann; Diana Dorsey and husband Jimmy; Linda Verzera and husband Dennis; and Robin Shoupe.

More than anything in the world, Karen loved spending time with her family. Whether it was a house full for Sunday lunch or holiday dinner, a week camping by the beach, or an afternoon road trip to “The Eagle” to find her favorite seafood, her best days were with those she loved the most. She loved the ocean, whether it was a day trip to the beach or a day on the boat, and if she couldn’t be there, she made sure her home was full of reminders of the beach. She definitely found her peace near the water. Anyone that spent time with Karen also knew of her love for dogs, always being greeted by one when coming to her house.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, May 17th from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Andrews Mortuary located at 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. Her Funeral will also be held at the same location, Thursday, May 18th at 2 PM, with a graveside service to follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens
