LeRoof Poythress

Buddy was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 27, 1921. He enlisted in the Navy in 1939 and served in World War II, retiring in 1959 having earn the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.

He was preceded in death by Merle Clark Poythress, his beloved wife of sixty-three years, his brother Joseph Poythress, and his sister Martha Poythress Bridges, and grandson Steven Poythress Jones.

A generous and kind man, Buddy lived life fully right to the end. He will always be remembered for his determined and positive approach to life, his wild stories, and his homemade ice-cream. He was an accomplished gardener, an avid traveler, and a devoted grandfather.

Buddy is survived by his son, Joseph Eugene Poythress and his wife, Marion; daughter Settie Poythress Jones and husband Hank; four grandchildren Hank Jones and wife Melissa; Alex Jones and wife Tabitha; Sara Jones Hollingsworth and husband Mark, and David Jones; and also nine great-grand-children: Brianna Jones-Brix; Sam and Clark Jones; Eli, Esther, Hadarah, Joseph, Melchizedek, & Tirzah Hollingsworth; and a great-great-granddaughter Isabella Brix.

Visitation will be held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service.

Funeral Service will be held at 12pm on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St Matthews Lutheran Church.
