Mary "Geneva" Maynard

Mary Virginia “Geneva” Davis Maynard, 94, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011. She was born Mary Virginia Davis on March 13, 1917 to the late James Luther Davis and Lily Bell Smith Davis. After her mother died when she was about 8 years old, she took on the family duties and worked very hard to care for her siblings, cooking and cleaning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Eugene Emerson Maynard. Again she took on the duties of raising her 4 children. She ran two convalescent homes for 20 years and finally retired in 1983. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother , and great-grandmother and aunt. Geneva was a member of Lake Forest Baptist Church.

She is survived by her four children; Gerald Lee, Eugene Emerson, Jr., James Edward, and Rebecca Sue. She also was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Oleander Chapel with Rev. Buddy Champion and Burt Vezina officiating. Interment will be at Carvers Creek Methodist Church in Davis Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 9, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers will be appreciated but donations may be made to Liberty Hospice.
