Mary Olive Williams Spikes 83 of Wilmington North Carolina passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026 under Hospice Care at Morningside of Wilmington. She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Everett Gordon and Ila Mae Williams. She was married to Reverend Thomas A. Spikes for 64 years prior to his passing on February 25, 2023.
She is survived by her children: Tamela Deans and her husband Billy of Newton Grove, NC, Angel Griffin and her husband Steven of Boone, NC, and Susan Barden and her husband Charles of Belville, NC.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her beloved mini-poodle Bentley.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Thomas A. Spikes, her parents, Everett and Ila Mae Williams, and her children Sharon Spikes, Wanda Spikes and Elizabeth Spikes.
Mary was a hard worker and worked for many years at Fallon’s Florist in Raleigh. In her spare time, she loved to knit, quilt, and crochet.
Mary loved the Lord after having given her life to Jesus during a Billy Graham broadcast. She taught her children to put God first in their lives. She would say, “you do your best and he will do the rest.” She loved to sing and play the piano with her children who grew up singing together as a family in church. Singing together created a bond that they held onto through the years as they continued to enjoy singing together at family events and gatherings.
Her surviving children find comfort in knowing that God has called Mom home, and she is in a better place, fully healed and whole, together with their dad and other friends and family members who are already in heaven. They believe she’s singing with the angels now.
The Graveside Service will be held privately for the family.
