Mildred S Barfoot

Mrs. Mildred Barfoot, 91, of Wilmington, NC died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear Life Center surrounded by her children. She was born November 22, 1930 to Isdell Grady and Olive Janie Ellis Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leon Barfoot; daughters: Shari Dianne Barfoot, Anita Barfoot Merritt and Judy Barfoot Rooks; son Mark Rodgers Barfoot and sisters Lucille Smith Rhodes and Mary Smith. Mildred is survived by her daughters Donna Barfoot Dennison and husband David and Teresa Barfoot Newton and husband Jimmy; son Stephen Barfoot; eight much loved grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters Hazel Smith Rooks, Dorothy Smith, and Carolyn Smith Bellamy and husband Donald; brothers Alfred Smith and wife Alease, Arnold Smith and wife Ethelene, and Jimmy Smith and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mildred was a wonderful wife and mother who loved and took great care of her family. By her example she taught her children values and the importance of having a spiritual need in life by studying the Bible with them. She attended the Sunset Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. She was baptized in February of 1969. She believed in the promise that Jesus made “…..in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus] voice and come out…… (John 5: 21, 28, 29). A Graveside Service will be held at 3 pm on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Park for family and close friends. A Memorial Service will be held via Zoom at a later date. The family wish to express love and many thanks to family and friends, and the Sunset Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the Lower Cape Fear Life Center for their compassionate care of our mother.
