
Miles Henry Hopkins, 76, of Carolina Beach, NC, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. He was born in Virgie, KY Pike County, on August 27, 1935, a son of the late Miles and Fannie Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne, Ft. Bragg, NC and the 101st Airborne, Ft. Campbell, KY. He was a painting contractor and owner operator of Hopkins Painting for over forty years and retired from Abbott Laboratories after 30 years of contractor services for the lab. He and his wife were residents of Carolina Beach for many years where in his spare time he enjoyed fishing. He was a loving husband and father and always took care of the needs of his family. If he was your friend, he was a friend for life. He will be missed by his family and the many lives of those he touched along his way. Surviving are his wife of fifty-three years, Ellen Bradley Hopkins; a son, Larry Joe Hopkins and wife Dulcie of Culpeper, VA; a daughter, Susan Kaye Hopkins of Carolina Beach; three grandchildren, Donald Hopkins, Miles Angel, and Denise Shatswell; two great-grandchildren, Tilan Hopkins and Nathan Hopkins; and a sister-in-law, Ora Hopkins of Laurinburg, NC. He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Wallace Hopkins, and a brother, Jimmie Hopkins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC, with Chaplain Anne Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors.
