Nancy (LaFemina) Moore, born May 5, 1944, 80 years old, passed away peacefully at the Davis Community Nursing Home in North Carolina on November 22, 2024. Nancy is survived by two siblings John DeCarlo and Yvonne McNally.
Nancy was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island, New York. She had a large extended family and was very close to all of them.
Nancy has an Associate’s Degree from Vermont College, where she met Eric “Ricky” Moore, who attended Norwich University. They married once Ricky completed dental school. Dr. Moore served in the Army in Bamberg, Germany. While overseas, two children were born, Deborah and Jeffrey. They came to live in Duxbury, Massachusetts for a few years, where daughter Katherine was born. The family eventually settled in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, where daughter Carissa was born. Nancy’s parents, Vincent and Josephine moved to Connecticut to be closer to her family. Her parents were a very big part of her children’s lives. Nancy resided in Connecticut for most of her adult life until coming to stay with her daughter, Deborah, and son in law in North Carolina about four years ago.
Nancy leaves behind four children: Deborah, Jeffery, Katherine, and Carissa and three son in laws: Robert, Scott, and Thomas. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Joshua, Elijah, Gwyneth, Olivia, Ethan, Tyler, Aiden, and Sienna, and three great grandchildren: Xander, Jace, and Holland Josephine.
To Nancy, her family was and meant everything. She was truly a devoted mother. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She was centered in her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Michael’s Church in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, for over 40 years. She volunteered teaching weekly Catechism classes at St. Michael’s School and belonged to The Daughters of Isabella. She also served as a Eucharistic minister for many years.
Nancy was a compassionate person who cared deeply about helping others. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Later in life, she worked for the Visiting Nurses Association. She then worked for the North Stonington School system caring for a physically disabled, non verbal student. She was never afraid to take on challenges, or to get her hands dirty. She never had an ounce of prejudice or jealously, and was always more than gracious to simply make time for anyone in need.
Nancy enjoyed playing on a women’s golf league and taking art classes. Her artwork consisted of needlepoint, theorem painting, water colors and stained glass. Most of which was placed in her colonial-style home.
Nancy had a love for traveling, gardening, skiing, cooking, theatre, and music. Grace, elegance, and perfection seemed to come natural to her. Her cooking and baking skills were unmatchable. Her home was elegantly decorated as well as the surrounding gardens. It was all as beautiful as she was.
She will forever be missed by all those who loved her and were blessed to have known her. Her caring nature, warm smile, and fun loving spirit will live on in our hearts always.
A mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Pawcatuck, Connecticut at a later date. At Nancy’s request her ashes will be placed with her mother in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Michael’s Church in Pawcatuck, Connecticut.
We think about you, we talk about you still.
You will not be forgotten and you never will.
We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain.
To walk beside you through our lives, until we meet again.
