

Nellie Jane Tompkins, 75, of Wilmington, NC was set free and healed from pain on September 19, 2025.
She was born on May 18, 1950, to Ervin and Nellie Lunceford.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, a younger brother, William Steve Lunceford and her Father and Mother in laws Tony and Rebecca Tompkins. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers in law Kay Lunceford, Annette Swenson, Roy Swenson, Jesse Willis, Billy Willis and Ken Sandlin.
Nellie was an avid reader, baseball and basketball fan. She loved her Atlanta Braves and Carolina Tarheels. Even greater she had a passion for her church, Rocky Point Freewill Holiness Church where she spent many years playing the piano and singing alongside her lifelong friend and sister in Christ, Joyce Futch.
Left with many precious memories are her Jr. High School sweetheart, caregiver and devoted loving husband of 54 years Samuel Ray Tompkins. Their daughter, Rebecca Lee Tyson, granddaughter Holly LeeAnne Tyson, grandson Charles Lynn Tyson Jr. (CJ), and son in law Charles Lynn Tyson Sr. (Chuck).
Nellie is also survived by her brothers Ervin Lunceford (Buddy) and Johnny Mark Lunceford. Sisters and Brothers in law: Tracy Lunceford, Weldon and Bonnie Tompkins, Wayne and Pat Tompkins, Eloise and Gene Roseman, Jonnie Mae Willis, Linda Faye Willis and Judy Sandlin.
Nellie was a much loved Aunt to many nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished as if they were her own. Also, many, many special friends who became more like family.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on October 4th 2025. At Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. 1155 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC 28412.
A Celebration of Life Service will start at 2:00 pm in the Coble Chapel with Rev. Rodney Bonham and Rev. Susan Craven officiating.
The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love, thoughts and prayers.
