August 24, 1934 - April 30, 2022
Peggy Miller Cooper, 87, of Carolina Beach, NC, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 30, 2022 following a procedure at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Surgical Pavilion. She was born August 24, 1934 in Ellerbe, NC.
A 1952 graduate of High Point High School, Peggy also attended Montreat College. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Zelma Miller, her sister, Lynette Gregg, and her husband of 67 years, James Douglas Cooper. She is survived by three daughters, Ruth Lynn Cooper Beeker (Sonny Beeker), Helen Cooper Crouse (Jerry Crouse), and Kimberly Dawn Cooper; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with cherished nieces and nephew.
Peggy loved God, her family, singing praises to the Lord, and Cardinals baseball. Her family and friends are forever inspired by her sweet disposition and the way she lived her life—as a beautiful example of faith, love, joy, and hope. To know her was to love her and to be loved in return.
Doug and Peggy lived in Trinity and High Point, NC before moving to Carolina Beach in 1989. Peggy worked as a church secretary and was employed by First Presbyterian and Brentwood Presbyterian Churches in High Point, and Church of the Good Shepherd and Windermere Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. In her work as in life, she strove for perfection and taught us to apply our whole selves to the task at hand.
The world is a grayer place without Peggy Cooper. Her style, vivacity, wisdom, and wit are irreplaceable. Though we grieve our loss, we are comforted knowing Peggy was a woman of immense faith and well prepared for her heavenly reward—something she was quick to remind us of during her prayers of thanks before meals and at family gatherings.
A Memorial Service will be held at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, 1209 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428. A live-feed of the service will be available; please email [email protected] for the link.
