He was born in York, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1929 to parents, Dawson and Erma Bupp Stump.
Perry Stump was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris E. Stump (née Woods), his brother, Ray Stump, and his sister, Mae Lightner.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Perry faithfully served his country for more than three decades—first as an active-duty sailor and later as a dedicated civilian. Beyond his service, he was a true outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time surrounded by nature.
In the 1970s, Perry built a log cabin in Rappahannock County, Virginia, where he and Doris enjoyed life together until moving to Florida in the early 1980s. There, he embraced the coastal lifestyle, often gathering family and friends on the beaches near New Smyrna. Later in life, he relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he was well known for zipping around Mayfaire on his scooter. He spent his final year cared for by the compassionate staff at Trinity Grove.
Perry’s legacy lives on through his children—Perry Stump Jr., Kim Stump-Campbell, Debra Wood, and Greg Stump—as well as his three surviving siblings, Donna Stark, Joe Stump, and Dawson Stump Jr. He also leaves behind cherished sons- and daughter-in-law, including Ray Campbell, Leigh-Anne Stump (née Wencker), and John Wood, as well as grandchildren and many extended family members who loved him dearly.
In keeping with Perry and Doris’s wishes, their ashes have been lovingly scattered in the Atlantic Ocean, three miles due east of Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross.
