

Richard James Lynch, Sr., 91, of Hampstead, NC, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Davis Health Care Center. He was born on March 21, 1922 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late William F. Lynch, Sr. and Edna Josephine Doyle Lynch. Also remembered is his wife, Lorraine Bisenius Lynch, a daughter, Kathleen Machovec, and two brothers, William F. Lynch, Jr. and J. Ronald Lynch, all of who preceded him in death. Mr. Lynch was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served during WWII. He earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Duke University in 1943 and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University in 1949. He was a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. At the time of his retirement on January 1, 1979 he was Director at the Department of Transportation in Montgomery County, MD and a member of the Washington Suburban Transit Commission. During his career he was President of the County Engineers Association of Maryland and President of the VA-DC-MD Chapter of the American Public Works Association. He was a Life Member of APWA. Mr. Lynch was an avid golfer and member of Olde Point Country Club in Hampstead and a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Surviving are his three children, Richard J. Lynch, Jr. of Coral Springs, FL, Thomas M. Lynch and wife Darcy of Mililani, HI, and Robert J. Lynch of Parkland, FL; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
