He was born October 30, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI, son of the late Max Herman Eric Schmidt and Julia Fies Schmidt. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katy Sanfilippo, and a sister, Ellon Wolter
Robert proudly served his country for over 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, and retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Schmidt; six children, Susan Light (Chuck), Robert Schmidt (Mary Ann), Jeannie Stovall, Sherrie Rowe, Melody Astler (Paul), and Debie Pennington (Greg); nine grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Willson.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private services will be held.
