She has a family who loved her beyond words. Her son Davis Crouch of Wilmington, NC married to Becca Crouch, daughter Anne Craig of Weaverville, NC, and two creative and adventurous grandchildren Katie and Jackson. She was dearly loved by her younger brother Bob Pearson, his wife Allison and nieces Merry and Ginny all of Canberra, Australia.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Helen and Robert Pearson also of Wilmington, NC. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School class of 1963.
Susan was born on November 16th, 1944 in Milwaukee Wisconsin but called Wilmington her home town.
At the age of 7 she courageously fought and won a long battle with polio and was still able to have an energetic life enjoying and competing in many sports from snow skiing, volleyball, tennis, swimming and golfing. An avid swimmer Susan shared her love of the water by teaching disabled children to swim and would often swim on her own from Johnny Mercers Pier to Crystal Pier and back again. As a child and later in life as an adult she continued her passion of golfing. She loved playing golf with her friends at Porters Neck Golf Club and at one time was the president of Chicks With Sticks which included many fun rounds of golf and cocktails (separately of course).
Susan’s many services and contributions throughout her life included working with great compassion advocating and caring for the elderly in her personal life and the community.
As a lover of all creatures great and small she once rescued a squirrel found injured after a hurricane and took in as many homeless animals as her parents allowed. She had a special affection for cats from the ones she was blessed with at home to even helping care for feral colonies.
Susan had many adventurous and “educational” travels with family and friends visiting such countries as Italy, Portugal, Mexico, the UK and all over Europe.
Susan was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a graveside service at her final resting place on Thursday Feb. 25th at 2pm in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington NC.
In lieu of flowers and to continue her passion for helping animals, donations can be made in her name to the New Hanover Humane Society, 910-763-6692
