Jerry Dale Wiggs, age 68, of Stantonsburg, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025. Born and raised in Wayne County, Jerry was a beloved husband, son, uncle, and friend whose kind heart and generous spirit touched the lives of many.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Evelyn Wiggs; his loving mother, Grace Wiggs; his aunt, Christine Rouse; his nephew, Jonathan Holloman; sisters-in-law, Terry Horne (David) and Judy Williams; nephews, Cody Horne and Jonathan Williams (Kim); niece, Lesley Pierce (Brian); his Mother in law Bertha W. Skinner whom he loved and was like a mama to him; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his cherished fur baby, Sonny — his favorite kitty of 17 years — along with many other cats he adored.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Wiggs; his sister, Gail Holloman; his grandparents, affectionately known as Pa Thede Gurganus and Granny Claire Gurganus. His grandma Alice Wiggs. Father-in-law, Johnnie W. Skinner; his brother-in-law, Steve Williams; his niece, Brittany W. Bunn; Uncles Erwin Wiggs, Ray Gurganus; as well as several aunts and uncles. Jerry also mourned the loss of his beloved animals throughout the years, including his dog Wheezie, his cat Flash, and his horses: Midnight & Rocky special cat Buttons, and his dog Bullet.
Jerry retired from Bridgestone after 20 years of dedicated service and most recently worked with Wilson County Solid Waste prior to his illness. He also spent over 15 years with South Co, where he was honored with the Employee of the Year award. His work ethic began early in life, helping in his Pa’s store as a child, where he was fondly remembered by many.
A true country boy at heart, Jerry never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand — to both people and animals alike. After the passing of his father, he lovingly took on the role of caretaker for his mother and sister.
Jerry had a deep love for the Lord and took great joy in the simple pleasures of life: cheering on his beloved Carolina Tar Heels, watching NASCAR races, fishing, wrestling and attending live country and gospel music, and being on his tractor.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 3 PM at Grace Community Baptist Church Saulston, 351 Antioch Rd., Goldsboro, NC 27534 with burial to follow in Stantonsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Jerry’s memory — a fitting tribute to his lifelong love for animals.
