Mrs. Mary L Skinner

Wilson: Mary L. Skinner, age 87, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. She was a daughter of the late Willie Clarence Batchelor and Etta Poland Batchelor and was also predeceased by her husband Kenneth “Pete” Skinner and brothers, Clarence Junior Batchelor, Willie Randolph Batchelor and Horace Lee Batchelor.

Mary Lou loved to be outdoors whether it be gardening, fishing or working in her yard. She loved being the center of attention, telling jokes, being the life of the party. She crocheted many beautiful heirloom Christmas ornaments of snowflakes, bells and angels which are treasured by the family. Momma was a phenomenal "country cook", especially her cornbread and homemade BBQ sauce. We all have fond memories of Sunday get togethers with her delicious cooking. She was very determined and was a survivor after battling several health issues. Her family describes her as outgoing, gregarious, tenacious, very adventurous and tough as a 50 cent sirloin. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Brenda Eason McRoy and her husband Mark of Rocky Mount, JoAnn Green and her husband Jerry of Eureka and Tracy Skinner Taylor and her husband William of Oxford, three sisters, Ida Undine Lamb and her husband Willie Gray Lamb of Wilson, Lily Barbara Vick and her husband Hubert of Nash Co. and Peggy Ann Jackson and her husband Donnie of Edgecombe Co., five grandchildren, Romus Parker and wife Christy, Rosemerrie Mitchell and husband Thomas, Ashley Salazar, Dillon Green, and Jordan Taylor and wife Grace and five great grandchildren, Shadron Outlaw, Trey Parker and wife Morgan, Logan Salazar, Lennon Salazar and Liam Mitchell.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday December 28, 2023 at 2 PM in the chapel of Thomas – Yelverton Funeral Home with the Reverend Ray Vick officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in Thomas – Yelverton Funeral Home.
