

SHIRLEY THULA LONG WINSTEAD Shirley Thula Long Winstead, of Holly Trail, Wilson, NC, died Monday, July 20, 2015 at Wilson Medical Center. Thula was born in Nash County, October 19, 1936 to the late Avery C. Long and Clyde Sherrod Long. She graduated from Coopers High School of Nash County in 1955. She was a loving housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and also bookkeeper for her husband’s roofing business for many years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2708 Nash St., Wilson with viewing of Mrs. Winstead prior to the service. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service. Interment will be Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the Rose Garden section of Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson. The Rev. Johnathan Ange of Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church will officiate all services. Thula is survived by her daughter, Tammy Winstead Pittman and husband Bobby of Wilson; her 4 sons, Christopher (Chris) Leon Winstead and his friend Rose of Wilson, Edwin Randall (Randy) Winstead and wife Jackie of Lucama, Gary Lee Winstead and wife Joan of Rock Ridge, and James Winstead and wife Tracy of Clayton; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren; her 2 sisters, Myrtie Davis of Wilson and Virginia Winstead of Rocky Mount, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Edwin Leon Winstead, her sister, Gertrude Cooper of Rocky Mount, and her 2 brothers, Pershing Long and Charles Long of Nashville.
