He was born April 7, 1959, in Asheville, North Carolina to Charles (Sr.) and the late Edith Morris Shores. He joined the United States Armed Forces (Army division) in 1979 where he was a decorated Cavalry Scout for three years.
Charles was a simple man. He was devoted to his family and to his Christian faith and had little need for much else in life barring the occasional bowl of ice cream after dinner and an annual vacation to the beach. He will be remembered most fondly by all that knew him for his gentle spirit, never-ending generosity, and constant smile.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joyce; children, Candice (Derek) Smith, Justin (Alana) Shores, Trevor (Amber) Shores, and Josh (Liz) Newman; five grandchildren; sisters, Sheila (Bobby) Watts, Maryann (Paul) Pugh, Susan Henson, Tracy Shores, and brother, Craig (Martha) Gooch; nieces, nephews, and many friends. And, of those friends, one of his very best, Merlin, a rescued Australian Shepherd (dog).
A memorial service will be held at Grace Pointe Community Church in Dacula, Georgia on Friday, August 19, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Charles may be made to: Life Images Program (gofundme.com/lifeimages).
As a beloved member of the Southeast Culver family, Charles is on his final haul, a long one, and one from which he will not be returning. Fortunately, it’s a road that has been paved by our Lord Jesus Christ who will be waiting on the horizon to welcome him home. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
