Survivors include his wife: Essie Mae Collett Mathis; children: Rickie Mathis, Carol (Mike) Kitchens, Vickie Davis, Penny Mathis (Jerry McLocklin); brothers: JC Mathis, Sambo (Janice) Mathis; sisters: Florence Wallace, and Kathleen (Jerry) Maynard; 4 grandchildren: Justin Ashley, Colby Cooper, Kevin and Nikki Davis; and 5 great grandchildren: Chloe Ashley, Samuel, Nataleigh, and David Cooper, and Kaden Davis.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 27, 2023 at 2pm in the Smith Memory Chapel. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
