Dana Andrew Harris, Jr, who everyone knew as Danny, passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 75. Danny is survived by his loving wife Judy Martin Harris; son, Andrew Dana “Andy” (Rebecca) Harris; and 2 grandchildren, Rowan & Reagan; as well as siblings John Harris, Kelley (Vickie) Harris & Edie (Ken) Grogan along with several nieces and nephews whom he cherished as his own. In addition to his parents, Danny is predeceased by his sister Linda Sue Harris and stepdaughter Vonda Kay Carter.
Born in Athens, Georgia on November 8, 1950, to the late Dana Andrew Harris, Sr & Sara Frances Harris, Danny grew up on his family farm just down the road in Braselton. Danny graduated from South Hall High School and then joined the Army National Guard where he served primarily in Louisiana for 6 years. Danny went on to Lanier Technical College to learn the HVAC trade before going to work with a local company. Soon after, during a period of layoffs, Danny asked his company to let him go instead of others. That is just who Danny was...Selfless. He then went on to start his own business, Harris Heat & Air, while also raising chickens on the farm.
In the midst of these changes, Danny met Judy in 1976 over their CB radios and married in 1980. Four years later, their son Andy was born. In 2004, they sold the family farm and moved north to Comer. There, as always, Danny was quick to make many close and long-lasting friendships.
Danny truly never knew a stranger, always taking an interest in others, what they did, who they were and truly enjoyed people. He always found joy in helping others with things big or small. Danny loved nothing more than spending time with his family, whether fishing, farming or taking weekend trips to the mountains.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. His funeral service will be on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2:00pm in Smith Memory Chapel. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
In memory of Danny, the family has suggested donations to the UCBC Cares Foundation, that supported Danny during his treatment, and/or the American Cancer Society. However, flowers are welcome.
