

Helen Fagan McDaniel, age 96, of Winder, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Helen was born July 7, 1925, to the late Jepter and Bessie Young Fagan, and was a lifelong resident of Barrow County.
Helen was married in November 1943 and became a widow in June 1944 when her husband was killed at the Invasion of Normandy. Eventhough they were only married a short time, he remained the love of her life. Her husband was laid to rest at the Normandy American Cemetery in France and Helen was finally able to visit his grave in 1998 when donations from more than 100 friends from Winder supported the trip.
Helen held many jobs over her lifetime, the last one being a clerk for the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, a job she held for seventeen years prior to her retirement in 1994. She was a happy and friendly lady who was dearly loved by many. In her later years, she enjoyed having breakfast every day with her friends. She moved to Magnolia Estates six years ago and made many new friends there.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Brunelle McDaniel, brother Harold Fagan, and niece Pat Willard. Helen is survived by her sister Mildred Brown of Winder; nieces: Lynn Smith of Winder, Cindy (Terry) Potts of Winder, and Nancy (Larry) Walker of LaGrange; and several great nieces and nephews and their children.
A visitation for Helen will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from noon until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Smith Memory Chapel, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia 30680 with the interment to follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of Helen McDaniel may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, Winder, or the Veterans Homeless Center in Winder.
