James "Jim" Gum, age 81 of Winder, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. He was born in Elkins, WV and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV. He served his country in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army. He lived in Maryland and was the Commander of a VFW post there. He then returned to WV, and moved to GA in 2016. He retired as a Sales Consultant with B P Oil. He was known as a detail oriented person, a leader, and always willing to help. He enjoyed hunting moose, bear, and whitetail deer on annual trips in the western United States and Canada. He was the proud owner of a vintage 1957 Chevy Bel Air.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Lucille and James J. Gum, and his grandson, Shawn. Jim is survived by his wife, Anne; his children: Andy (Malisha) Redmond, Patricia Ann (Carl) Gum, Catherine (Ronnie) Buffington, and Kristi Redmond; sister, Patricia Lively; grandchildren: Michael, Chelsie, Tiffany, Delaney, and Brady; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service may be held at a later date. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, has charge of arrangements.
