Mr. James "Jimmy" Lay

James “Jimmy” Richard Lay, age 80 of Winder, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. He was a member of Winder First Christian Church. He retired from the United States Army as a First Class Sargent, serving twice in the Korean War and once during the Vietnam War. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and Hazel Perkins Lay; his wife, Margerat Zipprian Lay; his son, Bryant Lay; two daughters, Charlotte Lay and Glenda Ruskoski and a grandson, Justin House. He is survived by a son, Robert Lay of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Susan Dubry of Largo, FL; a brother, David Lay of Winder; two sisters, Gloria Turner and Linda Lay both of Winder; four grandchildren, Michael House, Tiffany Sanders, James Argo and Cindy Oconnell and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Buice, Jakobie Sanders, Christopher Argo, Abby and Zach Oconnell. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Smith Funeral Home from 7 until 9PM. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Emmitt Tip Carroll officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Christian Church Cemetery with full military honors.
