Machinist
Bob died at home in the early morning of May 4,2018 under the care of hospice and his loving family, after an extended illness. He was 66 years of age, having been born on September 10,1951 in Springfield, Ohio to parents John R.and Emma Jeane Popps.
He was preceded in death by his mother, his first wife, and his son John Robert Popps,II. He is survived by his loving wife Jodie Lynn Gaites Popps, brothers Thomas Popps and Michael Lancen, and his father.
Bob was an outdoor guy. He loved animals and was quite a naturalist. During his school years he sent away for a taxidermy course and taught himself to mount birds and animals, including one eight point buck for a friend. All of his subjects looked very natural.
After leaving high school, he talked his way into a job as apprentice machinist when the company that hired him had advertised for an experienced machinist. He had a real knack for that kind of work, earning a machinists rating, and making it his career,. At his last place of employment he was awarded a number of patents for development of specialized tools.
During his later years, after retiring with a disability, he took an interest in photography. He especially liked to take pictures of birds and took many that were very special. He loved deeply and became, for one special and, sadly final year of his life, an Amazing Grandfather that will be missed so very much by the 3 little hearts that are his grand children.
Services will be held at 2PM Monday, May 14, 2018 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in Barrow memorial gardens. In lieu of flowers please donate to the hospice.
