

Miguel Armaiz-Arroyo, age 93, recently of Winder, passed away on September 8, 2023. He was born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico in 1930 and lived in Manati, Puerto Rico for the past 62 years. He was raised in the Catholic Church and was a member of Parroquia El Salvador in Manati, Puerto Rico where he was an Altar Knight for more than 35 years. Miguel was a member of Cursillista, a ministry group. He loved baseball and was a member of Atenienses de Manati. His hobbies included listening to the radio (baseball and news) and watching television and movies. Miguel loved the beach and he loved taking his family on camping trips. He earned a Bachelor Degree and was employed by the Puerto Rico Department of Education as a teacher at Escuela Fernando Callejo. He was a dedicated teacher who worked day and night to see his students succeed. He loved being a support for his family and often drove them to and from school, practices, and trips. He was known as "Uncle" by his family. He leaves a legacy of sharing his life with all of his family and was the only male figure who dedicated his life to his family.
Miguel Armaiz-Arroyo is preceded in death by his parents, Conception Arroyo and Miguel A. Armaiz. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Blanca Santana. They were married on September 2, 1961 and he said the secret to a long and happy marriage is patience. He is survived by his daughter, Graciela M. Armaiz; granddaughter, Keylamerari (Jose Andino) Sierra; great-grandchild, Gabriel Jesus Andino; and extended family members: Blanco Santana, Muniz-Blanco, Colon-Muniz, Mirando-Muniz and Vega-Muniz.
The inurnment service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 9:00 am. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, has charge of arrangements.
