He was born July 17, 1952 in Winder, GA. Randy spent most of his childhood living in Statham, where life was not always easy. He took on odd jobs at an early age to help out his family. One of his first jobs was cutting grass. He loved playing baseball and basketball that love continued into adulthood. Randy would help anyone in need and was always there to lend a hand, friend or stranger. He graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 1971. Randy went to work for Johns Manville, where he was a welder, chief mechanic supervisor, and devoted member of his local union. Randy enjoyed coaching youth and adult sports, cooking with family, old time Rock ‘n Roll and Diet Cokes. Randy also enjoyed the art of wine making and passed on the “family recipe”. He was known for his beard and blue tinted glasses that allowed him to view the world from a different perspective. Randy had a love for classic muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles. His favorites were Chevelle Super Sports and Heritage Springers. Randy was an active member of Winder Moose Lodge 262.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt Watkins and Sara Hayes Watkins; brothers, David Watkins and William “Chigger” Watkins; and nephew, James “Pookie” Farmer. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jeremy and Guaquita Watkins, Jason and Meagan Watkins; grandsons, Alexander Watkins, William Watkins and Jacob Watkins; sister, Pat Huff; special care givers, Sharon Kinney and George Phillips; and numerous extended family and friends.
Whether you knew him as a relative, friend, Crazy Horse or just plain Randy, he will be missed.
His wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life service will be held at the Winder Moose Lodge on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
