Elsie was born in 1925 in Tribune, Saskatchewan to parents Henry and Katherine Kurtz. The family lived there until 1935 when they moved to the Melfort area and then three years later to Brooksby, Saskatchewan where they settled on the farm. During WWll, Elsie worked in a factory in Hamilton which produced parts for the war effort. After the war in 1946, Elsie met flying Officer Samuel Archer and they were married in Winnipeg in 1948. Samuel graduated from the University of Manitoba and accepted a job with the Ford Motor Company in Windsor in 1950. They settled in Riverside in 1951 where they raised three girls; Catherine Elizabeth Archer (deceased 1997), Judith May Archer-Dick (Charles) and Deanna Gail Fenwick (Graeme). They have one grandson, Jakob Emerson Fenwick. Elsie was an active member of Riverside United Church. Elsie loved to sew and was active in the Quilters' Guild and the quilting group at the church. She created many beautiful wall hangings and quilts over the years, and sewed or knitted most of her own clothes. She enjoyed square dancing and even made her own square dance dresses. She was an avid gardener and was involved in the Windsor Horticultural Society, serving as treasurer. Her house was always full of beautiful flowering houseplants and their garden supplied them with food for a good part of each year. From and early age Elsie liked to ride her bike and was cycling even at the age of 89. She enjoyed her membership to the University Players and loved seeing live theatre. As much as she enjoyed all her many interests, she was always most content to be involved in a project on her sewing machine. Her creations will be treasured for many years to come.
