

96 years. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at WRH Met Campus. Beloved, devoted and dedicated husband to Nettie for 63 years. Loving father of Susan Yakovlev & husband Mario Rubio and Garry Yakovlev, all of Windsor. Proud grandfather of many grandchildren. Dear brother of Vac Koven of Vancouver and brother-in-law of Claire Koven of Calgary and Betty Yakovlev of Windsor. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy & Michael Yakovlev, his brothers Miller, James and Max, sisters & brothers-in-law Julia & Victor Nedin, Blanche & Nick Matick, Ruby & Walter Arthur and Velma & Joseph Malovich. Dear uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. George retired from the Ford Motor Co. in 1980 after 39 years of dedicated service and was a proud member of C.A.W. Local #200 and the R.C.L. #594. George served with the Royal Canadian Army during WWII, was captured, and spent 2 years in the German prison camp Stalag 7 until his liberation by General MacArthur and the U.S. Troops in 1945. Visitation will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue (519) 254-3223 on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Prayers Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Veteran's Memorial Service under the auspices of R.C.L. Br. #594 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Anderson Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
