A wonderful kind man I truly enjoyed being with him at Windsor light opera....sooo talented. God bless you my friend.

I met Hal at Walkerville Collegiate. We both took piano lessons from Irene Prince, who later married one of our teachers.
Hal and I played a lot of road hockey and also would go to an outside wall at Hugh Beaton school where we would draw a strike zone on the wal and pitch a tennis ball at the batter.
Hal loved to do imitations and he was very good at it. Did all of our high school teachers.
I spent time at Hal's house and got to know Hal's father and aunt who were raising him.
Hal loved musicals and My Fair Lady was a big impact on him. He saw himself as the Henry Higgins character as he stated he would never get married.
We both went to Western and in second year shared a house with some others. Hal got quite involved in the production of Bye Bye Birdie. He could sing all the songs.
Later he would visit me at my parents' cottage on Lake Huron. And also visits to our house in Toronto where he got to know our kids. They still remember him.
Hal talked about being a fiction writer. He loved playing goalie and it was interesting that he had a good friendship with Ken Dryden, former goalie great with the Habs.
Hal was surprising in the athletic abilities he showed.
I had not talked to Hal in years and have no idea as to the cause of his death.
As someone interested in the theatre and never one to draw attention to himself, I was not surprised to learn that he had quietly exited stage left and left us.
I will miss you Hal but have a lot of good memories of times together.

Hal, you will certainly be missed. Our world will be a lot less interesting without you.

It's always so sad to see the passing of a dear old friend. Hal and I first met in grade three and continued along together all the way through Walkerville CI. After high school we went our separate ways and reunited for the occasional nostalgic breakfasts about 15 years ago.
He was always very entertaining and his range of interests and stories were truly amazing.
Playing hockey with us guys in the basement at his house on Moy avenue set the stage for one of his his lifelong  passions.
We will miss you Hal. You certainly made the world a much more interesting place.

I remember Hal very fondly from our days of performing together with The Windsor Light Opera, now Windsor Light Music Theatre.   Hal was a kind, gentle soul and I enjoyed our time together on the stage.....his "Ed Sullivan" is unsurpassed!    Rest well my friend.

As children Hal and I spent our summers together playing in the water and along the beaches of Georgian Bay.  In later life we didn't see as much of one another but always looked forward to his Christmas visit in Parry Sound.  Hal loved Windsor and his knowledge of the area was truly amazing.  I will dearly miss those special times when we still got together to enjoy a good dinner and reminisce about the "olden" days.  Love and hugs cousin.  Margaret Erskine-McGowan

Hal was, of course, a multi-talented individual but he was also something else that one encounters all too rarely  a "good guy."

I was thinking about Hal just a couple of weeks ago!  He was "my editor" off and on over the years and we had many conversations aside from that.  I always enjoyed hearing from him.  Please accept my sincere sympathy.

I remember Hal saying he wanted to.exit stage left quietly but I wish we were gathering together to talk about and celebrate his incredible life. I miss him so much already. Thank you for sharing all of your spectacular stories my friend.
