Ilse Birkner

BIRKNER, Ilse (nee Hartmann) of Windsor, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012. at the age of 87. She is predeceased by her husband Karl, brother Hans Hartmann, granddaughter Katherine Grondin. Surviving are her sisters Margo Brettmann, Johanna Vinson, Sigrid (Donald) Morris; Ilse’s loving children Helmut (Beth) Birkner, Margit Huyser, Beate (Hartmut) Reider, Susan (Brian) Grondin, Peter (Jil) Birkner, Caroline (Andrew) Maevsky, Andrew (Erin) Birkner, Thomas Birkner; her cherished grandchildren Joshua (Eli), Andrea (Justin), Jeremy (Nicole), Matthew, Courtney (Lorne), Amanda (John), Katrina, Peter, William, Joseph, Trevor, Jade, Emily, Mary, Jenna, Alexander, David, Erica, Kyle, Cameron; great-grandchildren Sidney, Ava, Atticus, Lucas; sister in law Luise Hartmann, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Ilse was the most devoted, loving and giving wife, Mom and Oma (Grandma). She made everyone feel special and unique. Ilse emigrated from Germany via boat with her 3 eldest children to Canada in October 1953 to join her husband Karl in Windsor. They were introduced to the New Apostolic Church where she remained a faithful member. In addition to caring for her family, Ilse supported her husband in his Priestly ministry and took care of the church’s garden, altar flowers and cleaning. She loved singing, listening to music, cooking, baking, feeding everyone, reading, drawing and was an incredible homemaker and gardener and friend to many. Ilse had a fabulous sense of humour, loved sharing her time, many words of wisdom and childhood memories with her family. Ilse will be extremely missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre, 1969 Wyandotte St. E., on Friday September 14, 2012, 7:00 – 9:00p.m. Complete Funeral Service in the chapel on Saturday September 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Rev R.
