It is with deep sadness that the Balsdon Family announces his passing at Hotel Dieu-Grace Hospital on February 3, 2010. Jim was born in Windsor, Ontario on February 6, 1939 – son of the late Myrcelle Jack Balsdon and the late Margaret Edith Balsdon. Best friend and loving husband to wife Gayle for 37 years and beloved Father of James (Marlene) Balsdon of Calgary, Alberta, Kim Anne Balsdon (Larry Tremblay), Donna (Ollie) Green, Janet (Terry) Steel, April Joy Balsdon, Happy and Patches all of Windsor, 8 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Dear brother of Grant Balsdon, Judy Nevajda and Michael Balsdon. Brother-in-law of the late Louis Nevajda, Beverley Murray and Karen (Robert) Cosens as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He worked as a pressman with The Windsor Star for over 42 years. He was a King Scout with Lincoln Road United Church Thundering 32nd Troop. He drove as “Gentleman Jim” at the Checker Flag Raceway. He was a past member of the Essex-Kent Regimental Band and the Navy Vets Band. A former member of the Moose Lodge. He was a political activist and he ran for the Windsor Board of Education in the 1980’s. A board member of the Riverside Figure Skating Club, past President of the IPP & AU and a honorary life member of the Graphic Communications International Union. Visitation will be held at Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home (1969 Wyandotte St., E 519-252-5711) on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm where a funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11am. Reverend David Steadman of Harrow United Church officiating. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
