Fred Hurlburt, 82, passed away Friday September 23, 2011 at Humboldt General Hospital. Fred was born in Hartford, Connecticut, October 8, 1928. He lived his early years in Newington, Connecticut. There he met and married his first wife, and they had two beautiful children. He was a devoted father.
In 1962, he moved his family to Reno, Nevada where he worked as an insurance agent and in retail sales. He was divorced from his first wife and in 1974, he married Vivian Tennant. In 1976, they moved to Golconda, Nevada where he lived until his death.
He worked at C.B. Brown’s for about fifteen years and he was the Golconda Volunteer Fire Department Chief for seventeen years. There was not much in the way of repair work he couldn’t do. He could fix your plumbing, your wiring, your furnace or leaky roof. He could build anything from a chicken coop to a green house.
He loved to grow things and his yard was his pride and joy. He made all kinds of wooden crafts, but especially toys. He was an accomplished story-teller, able to enthrall a room full of pre-schoolers, right on up to adults.
Fred is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We all miss him and will continue to do so as long as we live.
Arrangements under the direction of Albertson Funeral Home, Winnemucca, Nevada.
