Alice Gordon died peacefully at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, early September 28, 2010, following an amazing life of 109 years and 11 months.
She was the beloved wife of the late James A. Gordon (1960), mother of the late Joyce Brown (2001) and Wilda Waldron of Guelph, Ontario.
Survived by son-in-law Paul Brown (Sault Ste. Marie) and Mark Waldron of Guelph, Ontario; beloved grandsons Gordon Brown (Joy) Oshawa, Brian Brown (Michelle) Sault Ste. Marie, Peter Waldron (LeeAnn) Kingston, Paul Waldron (Andrea) Huntsville, Andrew Waldron (Danielle), Ottawa and John Waldron (Daphne) Vancouver; great grandson Christopher Brown, Oshawa and great granddaughter Siobhon Waldron, Kingston. Also survived by her sister Ruby Harper of Charleswood and many nieces and nephews.
Born on the family farm near Somerset, following her marriage, she became a 75 year resident of St. Vital. Mrs. Gordon was a woman of amazing strength of character, wisdom, intellectual curiosity, many talents, a great support to family and those in need.
Her's was an unwavering belief in the power of God and prayer, nurtured by her 50 year association with St. Mary Magdalene Church as Church School Superintendant and in later years enjoyed great support as a parishioner at Holy Trinity. Alice was a friend and confidante to many. Committed to "healthy living", her garden was her refuge and her passion; she enjoyed a lively interest in politics and the world around her, boundless energy and enthusiasm until well over 100 years of age.
Heartfelt thanks is extended care to her neighbor Janet Gillies whose support enabled her to stay in her own home until 104 years, and her continued friendship.
Special thanks and appreciation is extended to the caregivers of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their love and tender care to our mother.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, corner of Donald and Graham, with Rev. Canon Henry Falconer and Rev. Merv Lanctot officiating. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired donations may be made to Holy Trinity, St. Mary Magdalene, or to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
