On July 5, 2011, Ann Thompson, aged 85 years, formerly of Selkirk, passed away at the Sharon Home in Winnipeg.
Ann is survived by her children Jim (Shirley), Tom (Melanie) and Mary Ann (Alain), her grandchildren Chris (Trisha), Michelle (Mintu), Alex, and Roberta (Jesiah), her great-grandson Jake and her sister Eileen (Gordon). She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2009, and her siblings Kate, Molly, Mary, Lily, Pauline, Emma, Pete, and Richard.
Ann grew up in a large family in Kelstern Saskatchewan, where playing with her sisters instilled her life-long sense of humour, and sense of fun. She and Bob raised their own family in Manitoba, settling in Winnipeg and Selkirk. Ann was generous with her time and energy, devoting them first to her family, but also to her community, including the Silver Heights United Church, the Selkirk United Church and Selkirk Presbytery. She was always ready with a helping hand, a warm welcome, and hospitality. When Ann wasn’t creating in the kitchen for her family, friends, neighbors, international students, or gourmet club, she loved to read, bowl, golf, sew, and crotchet.
Cremation has taken place and a Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 2:00 p.m., Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, with Rev. Deborah Vitt officiating. In lieu of flowers, Ann’s family invites donations to the Selkirk United Church Building Fund, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of your choice. Ann’s family express their special thanks to caring staff of the Sharon Home and the WRHA Palliative Care program.
