It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Arvene Roy McNarland on April 8, 2025, at 91 years of age.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley of 65 years, his son Terry, his daughter Sandy (Lorne) and many extended family members.
Arvene was predeceased by his daughter Lori, his parents William and May McNarland, his brothers Arnold and Lorne, and his sister Greta Gabler and husband Edward.
Arvene was born on August 15, 1933, in Neepawa, Manitoba. The third of four siblings, he enjoyed his life growing up on the family farm in Kelwood, Manitoba. This instilled in him a lifelong love of hard work, the outdoors, animals and especially horses. At a young age, his father bought him a violin which he enjoyed playing throughout his life.
In 1959 he married Shirley Gorham, and they went on to have 3 children that he adored and loved spending time with. He especially loved family trips that were spent outdoors. He purchased a pop-up camper trailer and explored the interior of British Columbia and northwestern Ontario. Time spent visiting around the campfire, hiking, canoeing and fishing were cherished by the entire family. Included were summer and winter trips to Banff, and trips to Mexico and Florida in more recent years. Another highlight were the many trips to Georgetown Bethel to visit his son Terry.
Arvene worked for TransCanada Pipelines for over 40 years as a welder and inspector, and enjoyed his work. He retired in 1999.
Arvene will be remembered for his kind gentle nature, love for his family, and his love for his God Jehovah. He had faith that even though his life may be cut short, that he would be alive in Jehovah’s memory (Job 14:14,15). He found comfort in the resurrection hope, as well as the time when there would be no more suffering. Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
The family would like to express their appreciation to all the family and friends who showed him love and support in his final days. Also, many thanks to the medical staff at CancerCare, nurses who cared for Arvene in our home, and the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their kind support.
There will be a private family burial for Arvene at a later date.
