Assunta Greco

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Assunta Greco, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the age of 91.

Assunta was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio, son Vincenzo, her parents Pasquale and Rosina Mandarino, sister Maria Chilelli, and great-nephew Raymond Moccia.

Assunta leaves behind her son Gino (Abbie), daughter-in-law Rita, and her grandchildren Louise (Matthew), Anthony (Johanna), Daniella (Brandon), Justin and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason, and Greyson.

Assunta was born on June 9, 1934, in Mendicino, Cosenza, Italy. She met her husband Antonio in the town of San Bartolo and they were married on December 20, 1953. Together they welcomed their two children, Vincenzo and Gino. In 1965, Assunta and her family immigrated to Canada, arriving by boat in Halifax on February 24 before continuing by train to Winnipeg to build a new life together. They raised a family built on loyalty, good values, and love.

Assunta loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed the simple things in life like socializing with others, cooking food for her family, playing cards, and attending Sunday mass. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family and spending time together.

The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Joseph’s Unit 2, as well as the Emergency department and Cardiology 5A South at St. Boniface Hospital, for their care and compassion.

Condolences will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Michael Savarimuthu officiating. Entombment to follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
