Peacefully, on May 16, 2026, Carol Francis Penner, aged 82 years, passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Carey, Janine (Ronald), and Kevin (Jennifer), grandchildren Cameron, Chad, Erik (Phoebe), Braxton, Mikaila, Cory (Kim) and great grandsons Elijah and Zachary.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Frank and Teenie Peters.
Carol grew up in Plum Coulee, Manitoba and later moved to Winnipeg, where she raised her family. Carol was musically gifted, being able to play many instruments, her favourite being the organ. She would often play to find peace and solace with her thoughts. Carol also enjoyed curling at the St. Vital Curling Rink where she took pride in curling at a competitive level; and hanging out with her many friends. She also enjoyed and appreciated her “red hat” ladies’ group and their many adventures and gatherings. Carol was also an avid reader with a keen interest in history and culture while viewing her many documentaries and programs.
It is important that people remember and recognize Carol as the person she was before entering assisted care with ailments that left her bedridden. Carol was a vibrant personality with a great sense of humour. She had a keen eye for fashion and a talent for decorating and could have very easily made a good living as a decorator or musician. Carol instead chose to stay at home and tend to our large house and us children who were busy and often handfuls.
The family would like to acknowledge a special thanks to the staff of 5E at Deer Lodge centre for the care they gave to mom over the years.
At Carol’s request, a formal service will not be held. The family will gather privately to celebrate Carol’s life on Friday, June 19, 2026, at St. Vital Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Deer Lodge Centre.
