Carol was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of Sydney and Geraldine Stephens (née Taylor), and sister to Susan and Katherine. She spent her early years in England, attending school in Kent, before returning to Canada and beginning a vibrant working life.
She built a career she loved with The Pearl Insurance and Thomas Cook Travel, which she balanced with raising her daughters, Taylor and Alex (Shane). A natural leader with a flair for creativity, Carol ran her own fashion jewellery store in Ottawa and later brought her talents to Eaton’s when the family returned to Winnipeg.
Carol gave generously of her time, from performing hand puppet plays with the Junior League to managing the Nearly New Shop with heart and precision. Her passion for community and the arts shone through in her many roles in Winnipeg’s community theatre scene.
Her favourite place to spend summers was at Stephensons Point by Winnipeg Beach. The pelicans were her most beloved sight and her family will think of her each time they see them.
She had a gift for making friends wherever she went, and her warmth left a lasting mark. Above all, Carol was most proud of her daughters and cherished every moment with her two grandchildren, Emma and Brenley
Carol lived with spirit, humour, and kindness—and she truly found herself along the way.
