She is survived by her sister Margaret (Gary), nephew Cory (Giselle), niece Tammi (Carl), her grandnephew Keyshawn and three grandnieces Jenn, Tayejah and Haiden. She is also mourned by numerous friends and extended family, including aunts and cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Helen Coughlin.
Cathy was born January 13, 1952, in Winnipeg, MB, and was a lifelong resident. She spent the majority of her work life in the civil service, working for the Government of Manitoba in the department of education. After more than a quarter century, Cathy retired in 2011 and spent her remaining years with her loving family and friends. Cathy was a selfless individual who enjoyed being the chauffeur, surrogate mother, babysitter, confidant, and shoulder to lean on to both her immediate family and extended one. Everyone who came in contact with Cathy knew they were loved and taken care of, without question.
Throughout the 1970’s, Cathy travelled extensively across Europe with friends. Despite getting a driver’s license later in life, Cathy spent a great deal of time in her car. From cross country trips, weekend trips to the United States or driving around Winnipeg, she enjoyed the many conversations and private moments with both family and friends while behind the wheel. She was a proud supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for many years. Whether she was attending a Bomber game, or supporting family at hockey games, junior and high school football, or cheerleading competitions, she was the loudest and proudest in the crowd.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
