Peter was almost born in India but his mother decided to travel home just weeks prior to his arrival January 26, 1931 in England. As a small child Peter lived in India with his parents and nanny until they returned to the family home in Hitcham Hall, East Suffolk, England. Peter did not forget India. When he and his friend Tapas Shome went out for Indian food Peter would order the spiciest vindaloo.
Peter attended school during WWII. He had just one sibling, an older sister who worked at a London Hospital but unfortunately lost her life during a bombing raid. With the encouragement of his father, Peter eventually left England. He ended up in Canada and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a pilot. He was stationed with 435 Transport Squadron, Edmonton. In his role as an RCAF pilot Peter flew a long range surveillance plane of the Canadian Arctic looking for Russian aircraft and other possible Cold War combatants. He did this for 9 years.
Peter eventually left the RCAF and tried his hand at a number of other jobs. For some time he worked as a cook and became quite good. He continued to bake bread into his early 80s. He developed a strong interest in computer technology and became a tech support person for a variety of customers including the insurance industry. He eventually moved from Vancouver to Winnipeg because of the number of customers he acquired for his business.
He passed away July 29th, 2023 in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents Lieutenant-Colonel E.R. Litchford and Mrs. Litchford and his sister. He is survived by his son Chris Litchford; and step-daughters Michelle and Wendy, all of Vancouver. As well he is survived by long term friend Tapas Shome and other friends in Winnipeg. There will only be a family service at this time.
