Don leaves behind his children, Greg Fisher and Kimberly McKee (Tony), and his grandchildren, Kashton Fisher and Lochlan, Ryder, and Mattea McKee, who remember him with great affection. He is also survived by his siblings, Pat Chychrun (John), Dave Fisher (Elaine), and Kathi Fisher, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Polly Fisher, to whom he was a devoted son.
Don grew up in Oak Bluff on the family farm. As a young man, he was a talented baseball player and later found great joy in coaching his children in baseball, hockey, and ringette. He was a dedicated member of the Oak Bluff community and a volunteer who never turned away when help was needed, always stepping up with kindness and grounded in the strong values that shaped his life. Don took pride in his work, dedicating nearly fifty years to Inland Cement, where he built lifelong friendships and genuinely looked forward to each day.
Don was known for staying active in both body and mind. He kept himself fit through the activities he loved—biking, running, card games, lively debates, and good conversations all energized him. He carried an endless curiosity and had a natural gift for connection—whether in Oak Bluff, where he grew up and raised his family, or later in Winnipeg, where he easily built new friendships and a strong sense of community. Don especially cherished time with family, and he loved hosting meals and reunions that brought everyone together. Don’s spirit lives on in the memories he created and in the many lives he brightened along the way.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and caring staff at Deer Lodge Centre, as well as the many family members and friends who supported Don throughout his final years. Their kindness and presence mean so much.
In keeping with Don’s love of good conversation and easy connection, the family invites you to an informal, come‑and‑go celebration of life at Thomson ‘In The Park’ Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, on Friday, May 8 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Please drop in, share a memory, and spend time with others who knew and loved him.
