With family by her side, Dorothy passed away suddenly on October 26, 2017 at the age of 95.
She is survived by her daughters Jackie Dawson (Bob) and Brenda; brother-in-law Arthur Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Jack, after 63 years of marriage; sister and brother-in-law Joan and Art Bellinger; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Anne and Jerry Taylor and sister-in-law Nancy Taylor.
Dorothy was born in Edmonton, Alberta on October 8, 1922. She was raised in Ottawa and worked as a legal secretary before her marriage to Jack. After living in several towns in Ontario and Saskatchewan, they settled in Gimli from 1961 to 1972. During that time, she was the librarian at the Gimli library for several years. She lived the rest of her life in Winnipeg.
Dorothy loved gardening and neighbours would slow down to admire the flowers. She liked to knit, read, do crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and cross-country skied into her sixties. She and Jack travelled extensively and enjoyed several winters in Barbados.
Many thanks to all the staff of Thorvaldson Care Center for their excellent care and love of Mom. Special thanks also to friends Luba and Ida.
A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 0R3.
