Earl was born in Winnipeg on June 3,1926, and lived in the family home on Bannatyne Avenue. Earl attended school at Hugh John McDonald and then in 1945 Earl enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. Upon Earls return from the Army he was employed at McDonald’s Aircraft. In 1946 Earl and his father established Yetman’s Machine Works operating from the basement of the family home and later moving the shop to their garage. Together they spent a lot of hard work and endless hours building the family business. In 1952 the business outgrew the garage and a new machine shop was built on Notre Dame Avenue. As the business continued to grow so did the need for a larger building. In 1963 a building was constructed on Jarvis Avenue and the name was changed to Yetman’s Ltd.
Earl took great pride in the family business while having his sons and grandchildren work alongside him. He appreciated his staff and the work they accomplished, Yetman’s Ltd was a part of the community for 75 years.
On Sept 8, 1951 Earl and Dolores were married. They began their life together on Bannatyne street, then moving to Monreith Street and eventually building their family home on Arrowwood Drive where they resided for 47 years. The neighborhood would become an extension to their family where many memories had been created.
Earl was a very active member of the Atlantic Garden City United Church where many lasting friendships were made. He served as a board member for the church as well as the Garden City Community Centre, and Fred Douglas Lodge
When Earl was not working he enjoyed the great outdoors pursuing countless hunting and fishing adventures. Family time was spent at Jessica Lake and at the family cottage at Breezy Point where you would always find Earl with a fishing rod in hand. He loved to fish and passed that love to his children and grandchildren. Many master angler fish were caught.
Earl and Dolores enjoyed traveling with family and friends, bringing back with them many memories and stories that are still talked about today.
Earl will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home. The care and compassion they provided to Earl was exemplary.
