December 21, 1926 – June 8, 2014
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Enid Lorraine Henley, at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
She was predeceased by her husband Ron in 1991 and son Terry in 2001.
Mom was born in Morden, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with her grandparents in her early teens. She and Ron were married in 1947, had three children and then moved to St. Vital in 1955. Mom worked at a number of jobs until she discovered her passion, law, in the early 60’s and became a paralegal. Forced to retire at age 65 she then volunteered for many years with the Children’s Hospital Book Drive and then shortly at the West End Cultural Centre, Victoria Hospital and Deer Lodge Hospital. Both Mom and Dad were avid music lovers so our home was often filled with the sounds of our father, a jazz pianist, and friends “jamming” in our recreation room. Mom loved these occasions as she so enjoyed having a good time whether out, at home or spending summers at Granite Lake. She had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to tease and be teased. Mom was a voracious reader and loved to travel.
We wish to thank all the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, especially on the 4th floor, for the loving care they provided our mother during her last two years of life.
Respecting her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Mom is survived by her two daughters, Lorie and Jan, who will miss her intelligence, her huge smile and her witty one liners.
Rest in peace Mom, we love you.
