Evelyn Mary Thomas

July 16, 1925 - Sept 27, 2015

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Mary Thomas (nee Hayles) on September 27, 2015 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. She leaves behind four children, Nancy (Lou Fontaine, Whytewold); Marilyn (Marilyn Hunter); Brian (Suanne, Henderson, NV); and Diane (Gary Goldberg, Oak Bank). She will be missed by three grandchildren, Tricia (Ben), Chris (Ashley) and John. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) and sister June. Evelyn is survived by her brothers Charles and Bruce and families.

Evelyn was born in 1925 in Winnipeg and as a young woman trained as an RN at the General Hospital. After graduation, she worked on the wards until a post came up in Public Health. After several years, Mom left nursing to raise a family. Evelyn served 3 terms as Councillor for the Village of Dunnottar where she spent both her summers growing up and as an adult at the family cottage. Mom’s time at the cottage was full of fond memories.

Evelyn’s greatest attribute was her strength and determination shown since her stroke suffered in 1988. The family would like to recognize the exceptional care she received for the past 15 years from all the staff of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, October 16 at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet the family at 3:00 pm at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
